DAVID DELISCA

Writer, Poet, Storyteller

Born in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, 

David Delisca is a writer, poet, actor, humorist, art educator. He is the founder and creator of art based social engagement poetry projects called Right Beside You. As an artist, he centers his stories and topics around the immigrant diaspora experience, family dynamics, self growth, culture, sports, as well as other various human realities such as grief and joy to bridge realms of communication. 

As a spoken word artist, poet and author, He is a four-time member of the Toronto Poetry Slam team competing in national competitions, winners of the 2013 Canadian Festival of Spoken Word national title in Montreal. He has performed his spoken word as part Nuit Blanche with a one-hour poetry filibuster, taken stage as part of “When Brother’s Speak” and is a member of social-justice poetry group “Five Fingers, One Fist”  founded by Mark Stoddart in support of John Carlos. His work has been published in anthologies The Great Black North and Basodee. He has published a chapbook poetry collection called I Grew Up Right Beside You and collection of poems called Goodness Griefness

His stage acting experiences include The Negroes Are Congregating that toured the United States, Canada and Switzerland and was casted in Les Freres.

As an arts educator, facilitator and keynote speaker, he has led or spoken at hundreds of sessions throughout Canada. He offers workshops that use art as a catalyst to focus on subjects such as social justice, anti-bullying and hip-hop, among other topics. 

His works and performance have been featured in Toronto, CBC, Netflix and Canadian League of Poets. 

He currently resides in Scarborough with his partner, son and cat.
